軟體上最主要的新功能為一個很白爛"只能用wi-fi 才能用的視訊電話",叫 Video Calling ;
也加入 720P 的動態錄影的新功能; 另外新的作業系統 iOS4,可以支援多工 。
在硬體部分換了一個很利害的Display,雖和iphone3GS 一樣是 3.5吋,但解析度最高達
940 x 640 pixel。
However, the biggest feature of the new iPhone 4 is probably video calling, thanks to its front camera. Apple calls it FaceTime, and it works iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi—at least for 2010. Apple claims that in the future it will be available over 3G.
The iPhone 4 can use both cameras for video calling, so you can broadcast what is in front of you to another iPhone 4.
iMovie for iPhone
The new iPhone 4 will be able to use a new editing software from Apple: iMovie for iPhone. It comes with 1,500 new features.
The new iMovie for iPhone works on even 720p high definition. You can use it to cut the video clips, add automatic Ken Burns effects for still images and a music soundtrack taken from your iPhone's tunes. After you are done with your movie, you can export it to 360p, 520p, and 720p.
It's a separate application, however, it doesn't come built-in with the iPhone 4.
iBooks
iBooks will also be available for the new iOS4. Apple claims that the
new iPhone 4's 325 pixel-per-inch display will make the books perfectly
readable. It will use the same controls as the iBooks application in
the iPad.
Price and availability
The Phone 4 will be available in black or white on June 24, and will cost $199 and $299 for 16 and 32GB if you are a new user or you are eligible for an upgrade.
If you are an existing iPhone user, the early upgrade will cost you $399 and $499. Without contract, the iPhone 4 is $499 and $599.

Oh, and they named. their fucking. display. I have to give apple one thing, they are the absolute masters of marketing. Who actually names a display? Reply
My biggest question (and that which I can't seem to find an answer for) is about the white iPhone. Is that an optional variant or is it solely the 32GB model?
I'd like to get a white 16GB I4 so it would suck if it's exclusively one or the other, depending on storage capacity and give or take another $100. :) Reply

Most magazines are printed at 133 lines per inch. The optimum pixel per inch equivalent for images is 333. Now many magazines due cut corners and only use 300 PPI images. So higher than some magazines yes, higher than the typical... maybe.
But more to the point. The halftoneing is only applied to images, and colored or grayed text. Solid black text is rendered at the resolution of the imagesetter which may be between 600 and 1200+ dpi.
So for images it is very very close to magazines, with a wider color gamut to boot. But for text it is still 50%-75% less dense. Reply
But this seems to happen every year. They really just touch on one big thing and a few things surrounding the item, like iAd and the iBook. But with SO much expected, one would figure a few things would have squeaked in. And they never do other major announcements later in the week usually. Reply

And what do you need HDMI for if you are in a room with a TV that almost certainly has a full blown laptop computer in the same room or very near? Wouldn't that be the better device to connect to the TV or are you carrying around the special micro HDMI cable that the EVO reguires in your pocket 24/7? Reply
Mini USB: They've been using 30 pin forever, its not even proprietary anymore so many people use it.
True Multitasking: WTF is that even? You want 3 apps open on the same 3.5" screen?
Bigger HD: No one uses hard drives. Apples 32GB is the biggest around.
Data Caps, Video Calls over 3G: NOT THERE FREAKIN PROBLEM. If your going to complain, complain about the exclusivity agreement they signed.
Less Strict Policies: If you can name 3 applications you were genuinely disappointed that they weren't approved then I'll agree. But I don't want my app store looking like Cydia with a billion themes. I didn't know 200,000 individually approved apps was THAT strict.
Support for Hulu: Coming eventually, and also not their problem. If Hulu offers an app, Apple will approve it.
Widgets: Yes it would be great to add some flavor to the lockscreen, but I will through a nice jailbreak.
Kickstand: Really? This is a selling point for you? Get a case. I rather have a clean design then a kickstand that will either break off or flop around after getting warn out over two years.
Whew. I covered everything there. This is an amazing phone, I and millions will be picking one up in a few weeks while manufacturers scramble to catch up. Reply
They live all their lives within those 50 metres of Starbucks and glorious free wifi...! Reply
That's with a hefty voice + data contract as usual, right? Reply
AT&T's plan to charge people 35-45 dollars a month for a data plan without saying it costs 35-45 dollars a month is working. Reply
But going to the airport, watching a movie during the layover, maybe some TV shows...according to gizmodo's tests data allotment gets eaten up fast...
And now that I just bought a 2010 Mazda with intergrated bluetooth, all I do is turn the key and it automatically connects to my phones bluetooth enabled Slacker Radio app, and begins playing where I left off. 20 minutes to work, 20 minutes home...grocery stores, friends house, I get custom music everywhere I go.
My usage is going through the roof as of late, especially now that Bing offers free turn by turn voice navigation GPS...and it didn't come at a more perfect time that T-Mobile now got rid of all overages for data and offers unlimited use (well if I go over 5GB they would throttle me down though, but I haven't hit it yet...)
I say in 12 months time..by the next iPhone launch, these features are going to be mainstays. I see it like the facebook effect.
Facebook by itself, alone...is a useless app. If no one in the world used it, would you sign up? But now you add in 10 million iPhone users, many of which are you personal friends, add in the Face Time app (when it eventually uses 3G), or other similar heavy use programs..and something you didn't see yourself using, you eventually do only because..well everyone else is too. It’s not the huge leap I was hoping for, but still enough that I want the new one and will give my 3gs to my brother. (he rocks the hand-me-downs).
Oh, and follow Luke Skywalker on FB:

You can call *639# from your iPhone and they'll text you back with your eligibility. Reply
How does 3 months in waiting time make eleven extra months of waiting to upgrade?
Any workarounds? Essentially, what's the cheapest way I can get an iPhone 4? Reply
According to ATTs website, I'm not eligible. Reply
Anyone smell an iPad screen update in the air? Reply
plus...it really is a large iphone. You know it, I know it. if they made the thing a bit smaller...then i'd just be plain confused. Reply
I understand that they were so happy design wise with the iphone that they then decided to turn it into an ipod and call it the itouch...I get that...but the ipad?
Its almost like they're rebranding the iphone with that device...at least for me, it seems just too similar to an iphone to be worth making. The itouch was really a substancially upgraded ipod...so like I said before...I get that. But they just really do too much differently with the ipad from what I can tell.
it seems to me that they simply said that people want a bigger screen for their iphone so that they can use it more...and thus the ipad came about. Only a company like apple though could pull that off.
the point of this little rant is that, what you said: ""So just explain to me again why you think I should buy this iPad instead of the new iPhone.....??""
could only be argued in an apple store. they did a minor extension, for little to no good reason, but are having success with it all the same. No one else would...at least not that the extent that apple is. Reply
Granted, I don't think I will get one, and it isn't the perfect example, but like any gadget it is an option. Personally I think it is nice to choose between an iTouch or an iPad or iPhone. Having all of them may be overkill, but not everyone will necessarily go that route. Reply
Choice is great, and ipad is kicking ass and taking names sales wise (at least thats my understanding), so this doesn't hurt anyone and provides a lesson thats completely off topic of what we're discussing (that a company can sell ANYTHING providing they have a strong enough name).
After discussing this with you...I can't believe Jobs or any CEO in their right mind would really go along with this. But so it goes I guess.
Anyone who owns all 3 is a complete and utter fanboi...honestly, if you have the iphone, you're set. The question I have is, why did they decide to have 3 slightly different verions of one device.
Because though the itouch was understand (as i said so many times before) the ipad makes me wonder if they're not just milking this well past its limit. Its like...okay! its a really cool idea, and i'm glad every year or so they have a slightly better one...but can't they come up with something else soon? Reply
